Mental health and addiction services in Wairarapa are changing

1 SEPTEMBER 2011. We are delighted to announce that Pathways, in conjunction with CareNZ, a national addictions services provider, has been selected to deliver a new model of community-based mental health and addiction service in Wairarapa. From November 1, Pathways and CareNZ will work together to provide people using services with one assessment, one record, one recovery plan and one service.

It is the first time in New Zealand that support and treatment for people with needs for both types of services will be available from a single point in the community. Pathways and CareNZ were chosen as service providers after a stringent tender process by the Wairarapa District Health Board, which evaluated 11 separate proposals.

Pathways and CareNZ will provide a range of services in Wairarapa including mobile support, employment facilitation, housing facilitation and support, residential services, addiction treatment services including counselling, detoxification, intensive outpatient services and methadone treatment. All services except residential will be delivered across the greater Wairarapa district from a central hub in Masterton.

Pathways is New Zealand’s largest provider of community-based mental health and wellness services. For 22 years, the Pathways team has been supporting people to live well and be part of the communities of their choice. Pathways is excited to work with CareNZ to develop a service that means ‘any door is the right door’.  That means it doesn’t matter whether a person needs support and treatment for addiction, for mental health or for both; they’ll be in the right place.
