Keys Journeys
Keys Living Choices is a housing service that provides both a step from residential-based support into independent living and practical support around managing a tenancy.
Everyday Keys staff hear stories about journeys, stories about people from around the country who have had the courage to embrace opportunities and dared to do something different.
The following presentation is an introduction to our book of stories 'Keys to Success'.
The following stories are included in 'Keys to Success.' They are stories about meeting the challenge of change. They’re about finding a house and keeping it. They’re about moving on and unlocking the future.
Ease
Rainbow is enjoying living in her own rental home, In the past she has spent time in hospital and short term respite houses when she needed a break.
Moving On
Turi is now a consumer advocate. She’s living in her own home and wants others to enjoy that freedom. She found that with some assistance she could find a place that was right for her.
Straight up
Sometimes people’s perception is that those with experience of mental illness don’t make good tenants. Richard, a private investor landlord, is quick to point out quite the opposite is true.
Freedom
“I get up and open the curtains and the sun just streams in all day.” When Adelaide talks about her home she talks of freedom, the joy of being able to invite friends for lazy afternoon coffee and some home-made baking or to play her electric organ without annoying anyone.
Living
Ani went from living on the streets to having a home when she became a tenant of Keys. Now, she’s really living her life!
Turning Point
Jean believes getting help and finding a home has been a turning point for her son Paul. Jean says it took Paul committing a crime before people recognised that he had a problem.
Names have been changed and generic images have been used to illustrate the above stories.
