Pathways is passionate about individual outcomes. We’re passionate about people having their needs met in their community of choice.
Our services have evolved over almost two decades and we now offer a range of community-based services throughout the country, including Auckland, Christchurch, Hauraki, Taranaki, Waikato, Wanganui, Wellington and Whangarei.
Our services include:
- Mobile Support Services
- Peer-led Services
- Respite Options
- Planned Respite
- Crisis Respite
- Acute Respite
- Residential-based support solutions
When Pathways started, mental health services were dominated by large institutions, but we saw the need to do things differently. The alternative that Pathways offered was a combination of quality accommodation and support services based in the community.
Pathways found the recovery model works! When we ask people what is was that made a difference to their journey it’s often the simple things like a good house, practical support, and a shared belief that people do recover. Our support model is continuing to evolve and Pathways is continuing to think outside the square and develop new community-based solutions, including the development of peer-led services.
Mobile Support
Mobile Support options provide a tailored service that lets people to live independently, while at the same time retain whatever level of support they require. This means that contact with support workers will vary according to individual needs.
Mobile support workers are also involved in community networking and facilitators for community inclusion.
Enhanced Mobile Support
The Enhanced Mobile Support Service is a critical evolution of our mobile service. It’s an alternative to 24-hour residential support, providing comprehensive and intensive support service in people’s own homes.
Peer-led Support Services
Peer support specialists offer a unique understanding and relationship with people using services, as they too have experienced mental illness.
Pathways is one of the first community-based mental health and wellness support providers in New Zealand to offer a peer-led support service as a real alternative for people experiencing short periods of being unwell. Tupuake is similar to respite in that it provides a peaceful, friendly environment where staff offer support during the day and night.
Respite Options
Pathways provides a variety of respite options depending on what’s needed. These respites are offered in many settings, including in a person’s own home. There are a number of choices:
- Planned Respite – from time to time people’s situation means they need a break from their home. Pathways provides the opportunity to take planned time out to recharge and help get back to everyday living.
- Crisis Respite – many people will experience unexpected situations or trauma throughout their lives, such the death of a loved one or a relationship break-up. In times like this many of us can find ourselves needing extra support to find perspective, recharge our batteries and get back on track. Pathways can provide urgent support to people in their own homes or in our respite houses.
- Enhanced Respite – increasingly people using mental health services want to explore community-based alternatives to a hospital admission. This particular model of respite, in many ways, is very similar to crisis respite however allows for a longer stay with staff from a wider range of professional backgrounds.
Residential-based Support Solutions
For many people, supported accommodation is a critical step towards independent living. Our accommodation and intensive support services are mostly provided through groups of units.
The number of staff and their skills and roles vary in each location according to people’s needs. Our most intensive support facilities are able to provide skilled, professional staff, onsite, 24-hours a day.
