Developing Pathways People

Having the right people, in the right roles with the right attitude is so important to mental health services. It can make a huge difference in a person’s recovery journey.

At Pathways a huge amount of energy is put into making the work environment positive. Not only does Pathways offer many opportunities for staff to increase their skills and knowledge, we provide resources for local, regional and national team building, leadership and management programmes and practices that encourage work/life balance. Healthy Lifestyles are a top priority, and staff are able to access financial and practical assistance with gym memberships, smoking cessation and team sporting activities.

Blueprint Centre for Learning

In 1999, the former Health Funding Authority requested that all mental health support workers attain the National Certificate in Mental Health Support Work. Pathways recognised to meet the needs of hundreds of support workers a new training platform was needed and Blueprint Centre for Learning was established.

The demand for high quality adult education in mental health led to Blueprint becoming a separate entity. It is now a registered private training establishment that Pathways contracts to develop and deliver a nationwide calendar of training. For further information visit the Blueprint website here.

Support Workers Competency Framework

Pathways also has a comprehensive on-line competency framework for support workers, which is linked to staff remuneration. The framework identifies key skills fundamental to support work. This not only helps individual staff identify areas where they can further develop their strengths, but enables Pathways to build future training programmes and tailor these region by region.

Ongoing staff training and development

Our commitment to staff training and development is linked to the changing needs of the people who use our services. A comprehensive in-service training schedule is delivered both regionally and nationally so that every team member is able to be involved in ongoing professional development.

National Workforce Manager

This position was created as a dedicated focus on creating a strategic workforce plan, identifying career progression opportunities, and investigating opportunities for ongoing professional development for all staff.
